Why Plant-based Meat?

As one of the biggest food trends of 2020 the Vegan diet has been growing at an increasing rate in the Australian market, Australia is now the third-largest growing vegan market in the world. Deloitte forecasts that by 2020 Australians will be spending between $1.4 billion and $4.6 billion a year on Vegan plant-based meat alternatives.

With these kinds of numbers, it is important for all food venues to have at least 2-3 vegetarian/vegan options available to their customers, ensuring you don’t miss out on group bookings or, the 12.1% of the population now eating all or almost all vegetarian/vegan (Roy Morgan).

But what are plant-based meats?

Plant-based meats come in all shapes and sizes, and you can now get all of your traditional meat variations in a plant-based form, beef burger patties, chicken schnitzels and a variety of finger foods. Check out The Green Buther product range for some great options.

Plant-based meats are made up of ingredients from plants, plant extracts and other vegan ingredients, specially designed to look as much like, taste like and cook like conventional meats.

Over the last year or so we have seen some of the major fast-food chains join the plant-based trend, Dominos, Hungry Jacks and Mad Mex, to name a few.

With this growing trend, it is more important than ever to have Vegan/Vegetarian meals on your menu, gone are the days when offering a simple vegetable salad or vegetable stack would suffice. Vegan/Vegetarian customers now have more options than ever with restaurants like ‘I Like Ramen’ and ‘Greenhouse Canteen’ catering purely for vegans.
