At Markwell Foods we are committed to making a better world by ensuring the products we sell have minimal impact on the planet.  This includes procuring raw materials from sustainable sources and improving the sustainability of the packaging we use.  To show our commitment to sustainable packaging, Markwell Foods is a member of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) which brings together businesses, governments and other organisations across Australia to develop a circular economy for packaging.

The vision we share with APCO is to develop a packaging value chain that collaborates to keep packaging materials out of landfill and retains the maximum value of materials, energy and labour within the local economy.  Our short-term goals are to meet the National Packaging Targets below by 2025:

·       100% of packaging to be reusable, recyclable or compostable

·       70% of plastic packaging recycled or composted

·       50% average recycled content used in all packaging

·       Phase out problematic and unnecessary single-use plastic packaging

Markwell Foods is working with suppliers from all over the planet to assess current packaging, identify more sustainable alternatives and meet the targets above.  We actively track our progress against these targets and report these publicly via our APCO Annual Report and Action Plan.

The MSC blue fish tick ensures your seafood has been caught sustainably and that there’s plenty left for tomorrow.

Our range that has this tick includes Markwell Tempura Fish fillets (all sizes) , Tempura Fish cocktail(s), Crunchy Ovenable Fish fillets.

Equally, we source our Farmed Seafood responsibly, with a preference for ASC products certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) where possible.
